Doom Metal Typically employs very slow tempos, and low tuned guitars. The music, and lyrics tend to evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom. Examples of doom metal: Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General, Pentagram, and Saint Vitus. |

Folk/Power Metal Folk metal includes the widespread use of traditional instruments, and singing styles. Examples of folk metal: Skyclad, Finntroll, and Korpiklaani. Power metal is extremely upbeat, and is influenced greatly by speed metal. Power metal emphasizes clean, melodic vocals, and "feel good" lyrics with fantasy or science fiction themes. Examples of power metal: Helloween, Blind Guardian, and HammerFall. |

Grind/Gore Takes its name from the "grinding" sound made by the atonal riffs "grinding" into one another. Bases most lyrical inspiration on gore/horror. Songs generally revolve around something sickening. Examples of grindcore, and gore metal: Napalm Death, Carcass, Extreme Noise Terror, Exhumed, Impaled, and Cretin. |
